Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 14) — The southwest monsoon, or habagat, is expected to bring rains over Southern Luzon, Visayas and Northern Mindanao on Sunday, the state weather bureau said.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Mimaropa, Bicol Region, Quezon and Batangas will experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms.

The same weather conditions are expected in Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao and Caraga.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms caused by the combined effects of habagat and localized thunderstorms, the state weather bureau added.

PAGASA also warned of possible flashfloods or landslides due to moderate to heavy rains and severe thunderstorms.

The agency added it is monitoring a low pressure area (LPA) 990 kilometers east of northeastern Mindanao, outside the country's weather monitoring area.

The LPA has low chances of becoming a tropical cyclone and is not directly affecting the country.
