Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 24) — Reelectionist Romeo Jalosjos Jr. was proclaimed as Zamboanga del Norte's first district representative, the Commission on Elections said on Thursday.

“He was proclaimed by the Provincial Board of Canvassers of Zamboanga del Norte this morning, 9AM, June 23, 2022, at the COMELEC Session Hall,” Comelec spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco said.

The poll body’s decision in SPA No. 21-224 DC was final and executory, and the clerk of the commission issued the Certificate of Finality, according to Laudiangco.

Based on the document, the Comelec ordered to suspend the proclamation of Roberto Pinpin Uy Jr., who was initially leading the race with 69,591 votes.

Meanwhile, the 5,424 votes obtained by Frederico Jalosjos – who was declared nuisance candidate – were directed to be credited to the reelectionist who initially had 69,109 votes.

“The Writ of Execution was likewise issued, declaring Frederico Jalosjos as nuisance candidate, and following a long line of cases decided by the Supreme Court, declared all votes in his favor as additional votes for the legitimate candidate, Romeo Jalosjos Jr.,” Laudiangco noted.

The Comelec said the candidate with the highest number of votes shall be proclaimed as the duly elected representative of the district.

The poll body ordered Zamboanga’s board of canvassers to reconvene on Thursday to officially declare Romeo Jalosjos Jr. the winner, Laudiangco added.
