Meralco records 20 power outages in first hours of Election Day
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 9) — Power utility giant Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) has recorded 20 outage incidents in its franchise area during Election day.
"Most of which were isolated troubles," the company said in a statement on Monday.
Meralco also said the power outage incidents were "immediately addressed and restored accordingly."
Affected sites are located in the following areas:
— Metro Manila: Sta. Ana, Sta. Mesa, and Tondo in Manila; Valenzuela City; Batasan in Quezon City; and Talon in Las Piñas City
— Cavite: Cavite City, Naic, and Amadeo
— Batangas: Batangas City
— Bulacan: Hagonoy, San Francisco, and San Jose del Monte
— Rizal: Antipolo and Cainta
Meralco has assured the public that it has prepared contingency measures for any emergency, adding that it has over 270 generator sets and more than 500 flood lights ready for deployment.
"We have round the clock operations and we will continue monitoring electricity service in the election sites across our franchise area," it said.
Meralco's franchise area covers Metro Manila, the provinces of Bulacan, Rizal, and Cavite, as well as parts of Laguna, Quezon, Batangas, and Pampanga.
NGCP says power grid 'under normal ops'
In an advisory, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) said its transmission lines and facilities are under "normal operations" as of 1 p.m.
Power supply and demand in all three grids are as follows:

Demand - 8,035MW
Visayas
Capacity - 2,836MW
Demand - 1,541MW
Mindanao
Capacity - 3,115MW
Demand - 1,238MW
