Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 23) — Voter registration will resume by next month at the earliest, the Commission on Elections said Monday.

Abangan niyo po ‘yung continuing registration of voters natin na gagawin ngayong June, or at least by first week of July ng taon na ito,” said Comelec Commissioner George Garcia in a briefing.

[Translation: Let us await the continuing registration of voters which we will hold this June, or at least by the first week of July this year.]

Garcia said they are set to begin planning preparations for the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections. He also assured that the funds for the activities have not been untouched.

Iyong ating eleksyon ng December, SK at barangay election ‘yun. So magpaparehistro rin tayo ng SK at barangay,” he added.

[Translation: Our elections this December are both for SK and barangay. So we will also be holding registration for them.]

Prior to this year’s national polls, many voters were surprised to discover that they were listed as “deactivated.” The Comelec has reiterated that failure to vote in two successive regular polls, including barangay elections, will result in voter deactivation.
