Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 15) — The Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) throws support to House Majority Leader Martin Romualdez to be the next Speaker of the 19th Congress.

In a luncheon meeting on Sunday, NPC secretary general and former Batangas Representative Mark Llandro Mendoza, Rizal Representative Jack Duavit, and Quezon Representative Mark Enverga presented the party’s manifesto of support to Romualdez who was reelected as Leyte First District Representative.

"We firmly believe that Hon. Romualdez has the experience and aptitude that will effectively unify the House of Representatives in the passage of important and crucial legislative reforms for the country and the Filipino people under the administration of His Excellency, President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.," the NPC said.

The NPC also believes that Romualdez will bring the Lower House towards economic and moral recovery, social justice and the rule of law.

NPC chairman and Senate President Tito Sotto announced the party’s “unconditional support” to the speakership of the House Majority Leader in a separate statement.

On Saturday, Romualdez also scored endorsements from former President and Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and President Rodrigo Duterte’s Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) and Nacionalista Party.
