Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 28) — The Commission on Elections is asking President Rodrigo Duterte to declare May 9 — election day — a national holiday to allow more people to vote.

Comelec Chairman Saidamen Pangarungan said Thursday that Resolution No. 10784 was signed by the en banc to formally request the President to make the declaration.

"(T)here is a need to declare May 9, 2022 as a special non-working holiday to afford the registered voters the fullest opportunity to participate in the said election and excercise their right to vote," stated the resolution dated April 27.

Signatories to the resolution are Comelec Commissioners Soccoro Inting, Marlon Casquejo, Aimee Ferolino, Rey Bulay, Aimee Torrefranca-Neri and George Garcia.
