Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, December 22) — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has declared Dec. 26 as an additional special non-working day in the country, according to the Office of the Press Secretary (OPS).

Marcos on Thursday issued Proclamation No. 115 to "give the people the full opportunity to celebrate the holiday with their families and loved ones," the OPS said.

With the proclamation, Filipinos can enjoy a "long weekend" as this year's Christmas day falls on a Sunday.

"A longer weekend will encourage families to get together and strengthen their relationship towards a more productive environment, and will promote tourism," the proclamation read.

Marcos has ordered the Labor Department to issue the appropriate circular to implement the proclamation for the private sector, the OPS added.

An earlier proclamation also set Jan. 2, 2023 — a Monday — a special non-working day.
