Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, November 25) — A magnitude 5.1 earthquake jolted the municipality of Burgos in Ilocos Norte late Thursday evening, state seismologists reported.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported early Friday morning that the quake reached magnitude 5.5, but was later downgraded.

In its advisory, Phivolcs said the tectonic tremor occurred at 11:05 p.m. with a depth of 22 kilometers.

Intensity 5, or “strong” shaking, was felt in Adams, Bacarra, Bangui, Burgos, City of Laoag, Pagudpud, and Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte.

Intensity 4 was recorded in Badoc, City of Batac, Carasi, Currimao, Dumalneg, Pinili, and San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte; Sinait, and City of Vigan, Ilocos Sur.

Intensity 3 was felt in San Vicente, Ilocos Sur while Intensity 1 was recorded in Bantay, Ilocos Sur.

Phivolcs warned of aftershocks but said no damages are expected.
