PH hailed as world’s leading beach, dive destination
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, November 15) — The Philippines has been named as the world’s leading beach and dive destination at the World Travel Awards Grand Final Gala Ceremony 2022 in Muscat, Oman.
It is the first time for the country to be deemed the world’s leading beach spot while the fourth time as the world’s top dive haven.
Announced on Nov. 11, the country beat 18 beach and 10 dive destinations, with the Maldives also nominated in both categories.
Three other Philippine travel brands bagged the top awards this year:
- Ascott Bonifacio Global City (World's Leading Serviced Apartments 2022)
- Amanpulo (World's Leading Dive Resort 2022)
- City of Dreams (World's Leading Casino Resort 2022)
"The recognition as World’s Leading Beach and Dive Destination by the World Travel Awards 2022 is a global victory for the Philippines that evinces the unparalleled beauty of our country and the distinct warmth of the Filipino people," said Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco on Monday.
Frasco added the awards are a "source of inspiration" to work harder as the government considers the tourism industry a driver of the country’s economic growth.

The Philippines and local brands also copped top spots in Asia, including Intramuros as Asia’s Leading Tourist Attraction 2022.
Meanwhile, the country was also nominated in the following categories:
- World's Leading Island Destination 2022
- World's Leading Tourist Board 2022
- Asia's Leading Tourist Board 2022
- Asia's Leading Wedding Destination 2022
According to its website, the World Travel Awards aims to "acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all key sectors of the travel, tourism and hospitality industries."
