It is the first time for the country to be deemed the world’s leading beach spot while the fourth time as the world’s top dive haven.

Announced on Nov. 11, the country beat 18 beach and 10 dive destinations, with the Maldives also nominated in both categories.

Three other Philippine travel brands bagged the top awards this year:

"The recognition as World’s Leading Beach and Dive Destination by the World Travel Awards 2022 is a global victory for the Philippines that evinces the unparalleled beauty of our country and the distinct warmth of the Filipino people," said Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco on Monday.

Frasco added the awards are a "source of inspiration" to work harder as the government considers the tourism industry a driver of the country’s economic growth.
