Agri damage due to 'Karding' tops ₱3B – NDRRMC

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, October 1) Damage to agriculture caused by Super Typhoon Karding has ballooned to over ₱3 billion, officials said Saturday.

In its latest monitoring report, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) pegged the total cost at ₱3,076,968,120.04.

Of this amount, over ₱14 million were recorded as losses in the livestock, poultry, and fisheries sector. More than 166,000 hectares of crops were also destroyed.

The agency added that around 104,000 farmers and fisherfolk were affected by the super typhoon.

The death toll meanwhile remained at 12, with five people still missing.

The Agriculture department earlier said rice and vegetable prices may soon increase by up to 20% following Karding's onslaught.
