Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 18) — The country’s well-loved dog hero, Kabang, has passed away in her sleep on Monday.

Veterinarian Dr. Anton Lim, who has been taking care of the dog since its original owner passed away, announced this through a social media post.

“It is with profound sadness that I announce the demise of our hero dog +KABANG (February 2008-May 17, 2021.) I found her lying motionless near her bed tonight,” he said.

Kabang was 13 years old or approximately 91 years old in human age.

“Thank you Kabang for the 8 years of unconditional love, loyalty and joy you brought to our family. Thank you for the life lessons and the inspiration you gave to the world. We will miss you. Hope to see you again. Rest in peace, Kabang,” he said.

In another post, Lim shared his memories with Kabang, including their very first encounter.

“From the first time we met at my clinic, we just clicked. You trusted and allowed me to do procedures on you, although grudgingly at the beginning,” he said.

Kabang became famous when she lost her snout after saving two children, her owner’s daughter and niece, from being hit by a motorcycle in Zamboanga City in December 2011

After this became viral, netizens from all over the world started to raise funds to help the dog’s treatment in the United States.
