Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, September 16) — New clusters of COVID-19 cases are among the factors that led to the increase in the coronavirus tally of Calabarzon and Bulacan, a health official said on Wednesday.

The Department of Health said they have identified 44 new clusters in CALABARZON in a span of two weeks, 41 of which are located in communities. Clustering of COVID-19 cases was also found in four communities in Bulacan since the start of September.

Health spokesperson Maria Rosario Vergeire said the increase in cases is also due to the continuing community transmission and expanded testing.

There are now at least 6,815 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Calabarzon, while Bulacan has over 1,400 infections, after a steady increase in the numbers over the past two weeks.

Meanwhile, the DOH noted that the following provinces and cities saw a spike in coronavirus cases in the last two weeks:

-Cotabato City

-Nueva Vizcaya

-South Cotabato

-General Santos City (Dadiangas)

-Dagupan City

-Puerto Princesa City

-Cagayan De Oro City

-La Union

-Sultan Kudarat

-Butuan City

-Negros Occidental

-Davao Del Sur

The Philippines has a total of 269,407 COVID-19 cases, with 207,352 recoveries and 4,663 deaths.
