1,159 more jeepneys back on the road on Sept. 14
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, September 13) — More than a thousand jeepney units may ply their routes on Monday, September 14, the same day that the government will start easing the one-meter distancing in public transport.
In its advisory on Saturday, the Land Transport Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) said that they have allowed a total of 1,159 traditional jeepneys in 28 more routes in Metro Manila.
The following routes will be operational for the approved jeepneys, as mandated under the agency's Memorandum Circular 2020-046:

QR codes that will be given to jeepney operators and drivers must be displayed on their units once approved for proof that they can pass through the said routes and accommodate passengers.
To date, there are a total of 17,372 authorized jeepneys that can ply the 206 routes. A total of 3,854 buses were allowed in 32 routes. Taxis on the road are now at 20,891, while authorized transport network vehicle services (TNVS) are now at 23,968.
In order to accommodate more commuters, the Department of Transportation bared on Saturday that the required space in public transportation will be reduced to 0.75 meters starting Monday. On September 28, this will be further shortened to 0.5 meter, then to 0.3 meter starting October 12.
Philippine officials previously maintained that distancing can be modified since face masks and face shields are worn, despite the advisory of the World Health Organization to keep it to at least one meter.
