Over 300 workers in BGC construction site test positive for COVID-19
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 10) – Taguig City Mayor Lino Cayetano announced on Thursday that 327 workers in a construction site in Bonifacio Global City tested positive of COVID-19.
Cayetano said in a statement that 691 workers in the said construction site underwent COVID-19 testing, as part of the Taguig City government’s aggressive efforts.
He assured that the construction site in BGC was immediately put on lockdown and the government is now conducting contact tracing.
“A localized lockdown immediately stops the spread of the virus and allows us to conduct an investigation unimpeded,” said Cayetano.
The mayor added they also conducted 2,104 tests in four areas in Lower Bicutan, where 111 tested positive of the virus.
“More cases are expected as the city government continues to aggressively test. The target is for 10 percent of the city population to be tested before the year ends,” he said.
Cayetano also mentioned they intend to open a 500-bed quarantine facility at the Lakeshore area in Barangay Lower Bicutan to compliment the five existing quarantine facilities in the city.
Last June, a separate construction site in BGC was also placed on lockdown after 23 of its workers tested positive of COVID-19.
To date, Taguig City has 1,450 confirmed cases along with 23 deaths and 215 recoveries.
