Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 13) — Shopping malls in Metro Manila, Laguna province, and Cebu City can partially reopen starting May 16 as the country seeks to boost the economy, Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said Wednesday.

Malls and commercial centers in areas under modified enhanced community quarantine can reopen non-leisure shops at 50 percent capacity, he added. Mall-based government services, such as obtaining NBI clearance, are also allowed to resume limited operations.

Strict measures will be enforced in malls, such as physical distancing, wearing of face masks, and temperature check. Wi-Fi will be disabled and air conditioning will be set to 26 degrees Celsius to discourage people from lingering inside the establishment.

Restaurants are also allowed to reopen in modified ECQ areas, but no dine-in is allowed.

Metro Manila, Laguna, and Cebu City will be under modified ECQ from May 16 to 31 due to the high number of COVID-19 cases in these areas.
