Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, February 12) — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) maintained that former National Youth Commission chair Ronald Cardema is ineligible to represent the Duterte Youth Party-list, as stated in a statement Wednesday evening.

The Comelec en banc issued a resolution on Tuesday affirming Comelec First Division’s decision that Cardema “has committed material misrepresentation as regard his qualification and, thus, ineligible to represent Duterte Youth for being above 25 years of age.”

Moreover, the decision declared with finality that the said party-list represents the youth, contrary to its defense that it represents the youth and professional sectors.

“While Comelec closes this issue as regards Mr. Cardema, we have a pending separate petition seeking the cancellation of Duterte Youth's registration on the ground of making untruthful statements following R.A. no. 7941,” the statement read.

The Party-list System Act states that a nominee of the youth sector must not be above 30 years old, and Cardema is 34.
