Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 28) — Police placed Metro Manila under full alert status Friday following twin blasts in Sulu that killed five people including two suspected suicide bombers.

National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Regional Director Guillermo Eleazar said while there are no threats detected in the region, the move is a proactive response.

"Althought there are no threats detected within the National Capital Region but as a proactive means in response to this terror attack, the entire region is now placed under full alert status effective 6 p.m. today," Eleazar said in a statement.

He added that the measure could help deter illegal or terroristic acts.

"And so I highly encourage the public to remain alert and vigilant," he said.
