Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 6) — Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad arrived Wednesday in the Philippines for a two-day official visit.

The Malaysian leader was welcomed by Department of Information and Communications Technology Chief Eliseo Rio Jr., Philippine Ambassador to Malaysia Charles Jose, and Atty. Maria Bertola Medialdea -- the wife of Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea.

Also part of Mahathir's welcome delegation in the country are Armed Forces of the Philippines LtGen. Emmanuel Salamat, Pasay City Mayor Antonio Calixto and 2nd District Pasay City Representative Emy Calixto.

Mahathir will meet with Duterte in Malacañang on Thursday, followed by a bilateral meeting. Mahathir is also scheduled to meet Senate President Vicente Sotto III and House Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

Mahathir's visit to the country will be his first since his return to power in 2018, said the Department of Foreign Affairs. It added the 93-year-old leader had official visits in 1987 and 1994.
