Typhoon Goni expected to enter PAR Tuesday
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has started monitoring two tropical storms outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR).
PAGASA said on Monday (August 17) that the first typhoon, with international name Goni, would probably enter the Philippine area of responsibility tomorrow (August 18).
State weather forecasters said Goni, which will be locally named Ineng, had maximum sustained winds of 130 kilometers per hour and a gustiness of up to 160 kph.
It was not expected to make landfall on any part of the country but it would enhance the southwest monsoon.
PAGASA also spotted another typhoon east of Southern Luzon, but said it had a slim chance of entering the country. The second typhoon's international name is Atsani.
According to PAGASA's Monday forecast, an intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) will bring light to moderate rains and isolated thunderstorms over the Visayas and the Zamboanga Peninsula and Caraga Region in Mindanao.
