Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, December 3) — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said it has recorded around 470,000 vehicles plying EDSA daily, adding that the number is seen to increase as Christmas nears.

The data was logged as of Nov. 24, according to Edison Bong Nebrija, MMDA Task Force Special Operations chief, which was a huge increase from December 2019's 405,000 vehicle volume.

"We know habang papalapit ang Pasko, dadagdag at dadagdag ang volume not only on EDSA but all over Metro Manila," Nebrija told CNN Philippines' Newsroom Weekend on Saturday.

The agency said it is continuing its clearing operations in Mabuhay lanes to ease traffic during the holiday rush.

Nebrija encouraged the public to take mass transportation while the MMDA, along with the Department of Transportation, will also ensure there are enough buses in EDSA Bus Carousel stations.
