917 G Day magnifies Globe's elevated status as a techco
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — Globe’s 917 G Day, its annual program for its most loyal customers, is all set to delight customers with exciting and life-enabling offers, showcasing its pivot from a telco to a full-fledged tech company, or “techco.”
“The shift from telco to techco is something a lot of our consumers will really be happy about. From our core telco business, Globe has expanded its portfolio through ventures in financial technology, healthcare, edu-tech, clima-tech, entertainment, ad-tech, e-commerce, manpower, among others. And with this year’s G Day, we want them to feel this shift. We want them to know that Globe brings them closer to their dreams through more than just connectivity but our suite of life-enabling digital solutions,” said Globe Rewards Head Jerome Patalud.
From telco to techco
As Globe goes through this journey, the company is introducing other innovations to better the lives of its customers. One of them is KonsultaMD, touted to be the country’s next tech unicorn, which aims to serve Filipinos through accessible health and wellness services. Globe affiliate GCash, currently the country’s No. 1 Finance App, helps Filipinos make easier financial transactions, save, and even invest their earnings.
“I think a lot of us, even you and I, we all use GCash nowadays,” said Patalud on CNN Philippines’ New Day. “GCash has been very pivotal in the lives of our everyday Filipinos, where they use it when it comes to daily essentials, everyday wants, everyday needs, even shopping online and offline as well.”
On top of this, he said that Globe is applying eco-friendly and socially conscious practices at their events while making sure each Filipino will be able to access the new ventures of the Globe Group.
“A lot of it will be backed up by leveraging our deep tech experience as Globe Telecom as we encourage more Filipinos to be able to achieve better success for them, both in the telco side of revenue as well as non-telco as well,” said Patalud.
Globe’s techco shift is already seeing gains, with its non-telco revenue soaring 52 percent or to around ₱2.8 billion in the first half of 2023 versus the same period last year. This is testament to how Globe is shifting Filipino behavior and lifestyle to the techco landscape and ecosystem, Patalud said.
917 G Day, a month-long celebration
917 G Day is rooted in Globe’s original mobile number prefix, 917, which stands for 09/17, or September 17. But Globe is making it a month-long celebration to bring more rewards to its customers.
“So why just stop with September 17 only? We made it actually a hashtag #GDayEveryDay. It’s going to be a month-long celebration of different surprises, delights, and treats just for our most loyal customers,” Patalud explained.
The lineup of events harnesses the various aspects of being a techco.
G Chance the Raffle kicked off on September 1 and will run until the end of the month. This aims to connect Globe’s customers with “money-can’t-buy” experiences through innovative and life-enabling products — techco innovations that could fuel their passions, lifestyle, and livelihood opportunities.

“You have electric vehicles and electric Gogoro scooters up there. We have KonsultaMD, GCash, and a lot of flight and travel experiences that our customers could truly enjoy,” Patalud said.
G Music Fest, an annual concert during the G Day celebration, will take the stage with an all-OPM lineup on September 16 at the Circuit Makati Event Grounds.

“It’s a concert that will bridge generations together. It will have the OGs of OPM and all the rising stars. You’d have the likes of Urbandub, Itchyworms, and December Avenue, and we have rising stars coming up in the form of BINI and Lola Amour coming into play as well,” Patalud shared.
The morning after, September 17, Globe will be hosting the G Creator Convention, which aims to unlock the creative potential of each Filipino in the music, content, design, and technology space.

“We’re actually converting BGC into an art and tech city, so just imagine every corner or every major landmark in BGC will have something for all of our consumers to experience innovations that define the brand of care that the Globe Group has to offer,” he said.
Gamers can also join the G Battle Zone, happening from September 23 to 30. Amateur Mobile Legends tournament G LegendsCup will be held on the nationwide all-access platform Globe Gamer Grounds. Meanwhile, the country’s best players will compete against their international counterparts in the Globe-hosted REV Major, to be held at the SMX Convention Center on September 30 and October 1.

Lastly, Globe is hosting its G Fair on September 23 and 24 at BGC Amphitheater to give local businesses a platform to showcase their products, and to encourage consumers to go local.
“It’s an art and tech pop-up championing our local businesses and artists, promoting homegrown local products made by Filipinos from the different regions,” he said.
“A lot of the offers during 917 really gravitate towards our Globe customers. Regardless if you’re Globe prepaid, postpaid, broadband, corporate, or TM users, we have a lot of surprises for you,” Patalud added.
“All they have to do is just download the Globe One app, see the offers there, redeem it, and you can actually enjoy all of them right away.”
