Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 8) --- The publisher of the popular "Percy Jackson and the Olympians" novel series is set to a release a graphic novel inspired by Philippine folklore and mythology.

Filipino author and illustrator Tori Tadiar earlier announced on social media that Disney Hyperion will release the first part of her graphic novel series "Highsummer" in 2024.

“So excited to finally share that HIGHSUMMER will be published by @DisneyBooks,” said Tadiar in a Twitter post.

“A GRAPHIC NOVEL series set in a Filipiniana junior high school? A girl who can wake ancient gods and creatures from PH MYTHOLOGY? From the publisher of the Percy Jackson series?! THREE BOOKS!?!” she added.

“Highsummer” is about a 12-year-old girl named Mika who tries to undo a spell she accidentally cast on her two classmates. She must then partner with her former bullies to save the world.

The upcoming graphic novel set in Ilustra Junior High will include characters like choir boy Teo, varsity player Halle, and their teacher Raha.

According to the concept art also posted on Twitter, the characters’ school uniforms are inspired from the barong tagalog and indigenous clothing.
