Boracay ranks 9th in TripAdvisor's Top Beaches in Asia list
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 2) — Despite its closure and rehabilitation, Boracay Island was still seen as one of the best beaches in Asia, according to an American travel website.
The White Beach of Boracay was rated 9th in TripAdvisor's 2019 Traveler's Choice Top 25 Beaches in Asia.
"Boracay’s most popular beach is famous for its amazing sunsets and its white sand that stays cool in hot weather," the travel website said about Boracay.
Prior to the six-month rehabilitation of Boracay, where the island was closed to tourists for an extensive clean up, White Beach was ranked 2nd in the 2018 TripAdvisor list.
Meanwhile, Nido's Nacpan Beach and Las Cabanas Beach also landed the 13th and 22nd spots in the travel website's list respectively.
The Department of Tourism (DOT) lauded the rankings of all three beaches, saying it was a positive response to the government's efforts to improve and promote its tourist destinations.
"This bodes well with our campaign of highlighting the people's genuine testaments and reactions to our destinations," DOT Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat said Sunday.
The government is monitoring establishments in Boracay to make sure that it is kept safe and clean.
