For film buffs who want to spend their Valentine's Day with a beloved Filipino auteur, you can watch Lav Diaz’s latest opus, “Historya ni Ha.” The film is about a heartbroken socialist poet and ventriloquist who decides to take a vow of silence and speak through his puppet instead. He embarks on a quest with a nun, a sex worker, and a teenage boy to an island where gold is said to have been unearthed.

The film stars John Lloyd Cruz, Mae Paner, Teroy Guzman, Dolly De Leon, Jonathan Francisco, Ceian Hazel Gabuco, Earl Ignacio, Hazel Orencio, and Allen Alzola.

Join a talk on the state of human rights work in the Philippines

On Feb. 15, 6 p.m. (ET, US and Canada) The National Union of Peoples' Lawyers with Malaya Movement USA is hosting a talk called “Riding out the Storm: Duterte, the Pandemic, and the Future of Human Rights in the Philippines.” The talk will discuss “the state of human rights work in this precarious chapter of Filipino democracy.”

The panel will include Angelo Karlo-Guillen, secretary general of the NUPL - Panay, Czarina Golda Musni, secretary general of NUPL in Mindanao, and Melanie Pinlac, assistant secretary general for the Welfare and Protection of Lawyers and Judges, NUPL.

Apply to Full Circle Lab Philippines

The Film Development Council of the Philippines and Tatino Films are opening the applications to Full Circle Lab, open to Filipino and Southeast Asian filmmakers.

The Full Circle Lab features “four labs that will directly benefit 15 projects and 11 talents, with no less than ten international mentors and industry advisors involved.”

Applications for Fiction Lab, Creative Producers Lab, and Story Editing Lab are due on Feb. 15, 2022 while First Cut Lab applications will be accepted until Mar. 15, 2022.
