Canadian vlogger 'Kulas' now a Filipino citizen
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, September 16) — The Canadian vlogger behind the YouTube channel "Becoming Filipino" is now a Filipino citizen.
"I have officially become a Filipino," Kyle Jennermann – also known as "Kulas" – said on social media as he shared photos from his oath-taking administered by Quezon City Rep. Len Alonte.
"Today marks the beginning of the most important part of my life. I am ready for this. I am filled with belief, inspiration, gratefulness, and love," he added.
The Senate unanimously affirmed House Bill 7185 in May, which paved the way for Jennermann's Filipino citizenship.
Jennermann first visited the country in 2013 through the influence of his Filipinos friends. He said what made him stay was the "way Filipinos always find a reason to be happy."
"I am overwhelmed with the way that being happy was such an intrinsic, cool thing," he previously told CNN Philippines' The Final Word. "No matter what people are going through, there is always a reason to be happy and to share that [happiness with others]."
So far, "Becoming Filipino" – which features the Philippines and its culture – has 1.1 million subscribers.
