Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 21)— Social media lit up with tributes overnight as industry colleagues and other personalities mourned the death of highly acclaimed veteran actress Susan Roces.

Media network ABS-CBN, including the cast of the wildly popular action series "FPJ's Ang Probinsyano” — expressed condolences to Roces’ family and vowed to continue honoring her legacy as the “Queen of Philippine Movies.”

“Tita Susan was an exemplary icon, who was a source of inspiration and strength as she served the Filipino people,” they said in a statement.

Roces’ most recent role was that of 'Lola Flora' in the long-running police drama.

Fellow actress Judy Ann Santos-Agoncillo remembered Roces for her “generosity, genuine love, and words of wisdom.”

Singer Ogie Alcasid reminisced his foray into acting, where he got to work with Roces.

“Kahit ako’y mamali mali at kabadong kabado, siya ay mapasensya at inalalayan nya ako sa eksena,” Alcasid wrote on his Instagram page.

Other big celebrities including Vilma Santos-Recto, Maricel Soriano, John Arcilla, Lorna Tolentino, and John Prats also delivered their own tributes.

Roces — Jesusa Sonora Poe in real life – passed away on Friday at the age of 80, her daughter Senator Grace Poe confirmed.

Poe’s colleagues in the Senate also sent their sympathies to the family.

Malacañang also extends its condolences on the death of the actress, describing her demise as a "big loss not only to the local entertainment industry but to all the people whose lives the beloved icon had touched and affected."

Roces was launched to stardom in the 1950s and became one of the most sought-after leading ladies of local cinema until recent years.

Her wake will be held at the Heritage Memorial Park in Taguig, according to Poe. There will also be a scheduled public viewing from Sunday to Tuesday.

Interment will be announced once the schedule is finalized, Poe added.
