WATCH: Nadine Lustre sets up solar-powered charging station in Siargao
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, December 23) — Actress and singer Nadine Lustre, along with Greenpeace Philippines, assembled a solar-powered charging station for residents of Brgy. Malinao in Siargao to use as the island continues to reel from the aftermath of Typhoon Odette.
Lustre, who has her own place in Siargao, echoed the statements of residents and local officials, saying the island still does not have stable access to electricity.
"We've installed a solar panel here where the locals can use so that they can charge gadgets - phones, lights, or anything that would need power," Lustre said in a video posted by Greenpeace on Thursday.
The actress shared that some of the residents, including children, helped her with the setup.
"It's really nice cause earlier we were setting up the charging station, there's a table that was a bit wobbly na - it's really the kids that were helping me fix the table," she said.
Typhoon Odette left a trail of destruction in the Visayas and Mindanao last week — with damage to agriculture and infrastructure reaching over ₱4 billion.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council also reported 285 deaths, 568 injured and 47 missing, although it has yet to confirm how many of these have been validated.
