Liza Soberano no longer playing 'Darna'
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April ) — Fans won't be able to witness Liza Soberano don the red and gold "Darna" costume as the actress' management confirmed her withdrawal from the highly-anticipated movie project.
In a statement Thursday, ABS-CBN and Star Cinema announced that Soberano decided to step down from the superheroine role due to medical reasons.
The management said the 21-year-old actress suffered a finger bone fracture while doing a fight scene on the set of her "Bagani" teleserye in 2018.
"She is still undergoing and recovering from the trauma. Unfortunately, after consultation with her doctors, it was deemed best for Liza not to pursue the project as the injury shall hamper her from effectively doing the movie stunts required," the statement read.
ABS-CBN and Star Magic said they respect Soberano's decision, but reiterated that preparations for the movie will still continue.
Management, however, has yet to announce a replacement for the role.
Fellow ABS-CBN talent Angel Locsin first took on the character when she was in GMA in 2005.
The superheroine was last portrayed by GMA star Marian Rivera for the small screen in 2009.
