Meta clarifies FB ‘live selling’ in PH can continue

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 10) — Facebook’s parent company Meta has clarified that users of the social media platform in the country can continue to do live selling through ‘Facebook Live’.

The tool allows Facebook users to broadcast a conversation, performance, question-and-answer, or virtual event, including live selling.

At the height of the pandemic, many Filipino entrepreneurs have used Facebook as an avenue to promote their products through the platform’s live streaming feature.

Meta also made it clear that it is discontinuing the Facebook Live Shopping feature by October 1. The feature is only available in select countries, the Philippines excluded.

In removing the feature, the company said users will not be able to create product playlists or tag products but can still sell through Reels, its short-form video product.

It added that business owners and retailers can still set up Live Shopping on Instagram.
