Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 4) — SpaceX Corp. hopes to launch the first gateway in the Philippines for its low-orbit satellites providing internet access before President Rodrigo Duterte finishes his term next month, the Department of Trade and Industry said Wednesday.

Ang target nila makapag-bukas ng kahit isa, unang gateway out of the three planned gateways, mabuksan na before the end of the term of our Pangulong Duterte,” DTI Secretary Ramon Lopez told a Laging Handa briefing.

The Elon Musk-led company is currently registering with the Securities and Exchange Commission and securing permits with the National Telecommunications Commission and Department of Information and Communications Technology, Lopez added.

"Ang hinihintay na lang natin, 'yung mag-register din sila sa Board of Investments,” the economic official said, also noting that a local law firm is helping the American company accomplish all necessary papers.

The DTI earlier said SpaceX will set up a local entity that will serve as its wholly owned subsidiary. It hopes to launch three gateways in the first phase of its Philippine launch.
