Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 27) — Twenty-two industries reported an average increase of 23% in salaries they offered their workers in 2021, according to a job portal.

In an interview with CNN Philippines, JobStreet Philippines Country Manager Philip Gioca said these industries were the ones that "thrived during the pandemic," or those that "pivoted quickly to digitalization."

These include education, public and social services, electronics, information technology, marketing, telecommunications, healthcare, and construction.

But there were also some industries that were hampered in giving higher pay - like oil and gas, hospitality, consumer goods, banking and finance, and real estate.

Still, Gioca said the generally increasing trajectory would continue this year as more businesses are back and more jobs are being offered.

He added that 900,000 jobs were generated last year - most of which were in the second half.

Gioca told job seekers to continue retooling themselves, especially with skills specific to the digital space.

"This pandemic, despite lowering of cases, we will still have a hybrid form of work… Having a digital knowledge is a key ingredient now," he said.
