DITO Telecommunity boasts 500,000 subscribers after March launch

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 17) — The subscriber base of DITO Telecommunity reached a milestone more than two months after it launched its mobile services, its top executive said on Monday.

"Our current subscribers are half a million Filipinos," DITO Chairman and CEO Dennis Uy said during the virtual briefing for the group's Metro Manila launch on Monday.

The figure, however, remains far from the third telco's target of securing 30% market share, DITO chief technology officer Rodolfo Santiago said in the same event.

DITO previously said it wanted to corner a third of the market in its first year of operation, but it withdrew the target in March. Adel Tamano, DITO chief administrative officer, said at the time that the telco could only grab a significant market share once the Mobile Number Portability Act is in place.

On Monday, it officially rolled out its mobile services in the following Metro Manila areas:

- Manila

- Quezon City

- Muntinlupa

- Paranaque

- Pasay

- Taguig

- Pasteros

- Makati

- Pasig

- Mandaluyong

- San Juan

- Caloocan

- Malabon

- Navotas

- Valenzuela

- Las Pinas

- Marikina

"Network optimization has been happening at full speed. Tower and infrastructure roll-out have continued unabated despite the pandemic...," Uy said.

Under its committed services, DITO promised to boost coverage to 84% of the population and deliver a minimum average internet speed of 55 megabits per second by the end of its fifth year or by 2024.

After initially launching in key areas in the Visayas and Mindanao, DITO expanded further nationwide with its network now covering 100 cities and municipalities.
