Tacloban City (CNN Philippines, August 13) – Monsoon rains caused flooding and erosion in parts of Calbayog City in Samar, local authorities said Sunday.

The continuous rains on Sunday morning caused rivers in the city to overflow, causing severe flooding in low-lying barangays such as Danao, Acedillo, and Bontay.

Flooding in these barangays is reportedly knee to waist deep, while some homes in Acedillo were reportedly damaged by soil erosion.

A section of the Gadgaran-Navarro road also eroded, leaving it impassable to all types of vehicles, the Calbayog City Information Office said.

The road, which was already damaged before the heavy rains, is due for repair this year.

Calbayog’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office on Sunday morning began inspecting flood and erosion-prone areas around the city.

Tacloban-based journalist Wil Mark Amazona contributed to this report.
