Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 3) — Veteran actor John Regala died on Saturday.

He was 55 years old.

Regala's niece confirmed his death on social media.

"No more Pain na tito,” Nene Lour Billones Bendijo said. “PAALAM tito John Regala!”

His death was also announced by entertainment columnist Aster Amoyo, who said the actor died at 6:28 a.m. after suffering from multiple health ailments.

Regala was earlier reported to be suffering from liver cirrhosis and severe gout.

The seasoned actor was born John Paul Guido Boucher Scherrer on Sept. 12, 1967 to actors Mel Francisco and Ruby Regala.

He first appeared on "That’s Entertainment" in the 1980s.

In the ’90s, Regala became known for his antagonist roles in action movies.

He starred in films including “Isa-Isahin Ko Kayo” (1990), “Bukas Bibitayin si Itay” (1995) and “Askal” (1997).

In 2011, Regala won Best Supporting Actor in the Metro Manila Filmfest movie “Manila Kingpin: The Asiong Salonga Story.”

He also took part in a number of television series with his latest appearance on “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano.”

Regala’s wake will be at St. Peter Chapels in Tandang Sora, Quezon City. His interment has yet to be announced.
