Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 30)  — Senator Robin Padilla announced Tuesday his irrevocable resignation as executive vice president of the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) as he intends to focus on his “heavy responsibilities” in the Senate.

The actor-turned-lawmaker noted that he would remain a member of the political party, which was the ruling party under the administration of former President Rodrigo Duterte.

[Translation: I believe my decision is for the good of the party and its members—and more importantly, for the Filipino people.]

Padilla said the party deserves an executive official “who can devote more time to its affairs.”

[Translation: As an incumbent senator with a heavy mandate, I am aware that other dutie, including my position as EVP of the party, must give way to my ability to fulfill my sworn duty to the people.]

Padilla topped the Senate race last May 2022 elections.
