Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 26) — A magnitude 5 earthquake jolted the municipality of Uson in Masbate late Thursday night, state seismologists said.

In an advisory released passed midnight, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported that the tectonic quake hit 10 kilometers (km) northwest of Uson at 11:26 p.m. The quake had a depth of 14 kilometers.

Intensity 4 or "moderately strong" shaking was felt in other parts of Uson, Masbate while intensity 3 or "weak" shaking was recorded in the City of Masbate.

Intensity 2 or "slightly felt" shaking was felt in Naval in Biliran and in Leyte's Leyte and Villaba.

Phivolcs warned that damage and aftershocks are expected.
