Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 7) — Philippine senators are sending a ₱2.5-million donation to victims of the powerful earthquake in Turkey, now called Türkiye.

This was confirmed by Senate President Migz Zubiri, who also led the turnover event on Tuesday.

"I thank all of my colleagues in the Senate for pooling together a total of ₱2.5 million at ₱100,000 each senator for a donation to the Turkish Red Crescent, coursed through the Philippine Red Cross," Zubiri said.

Zubiri added that the senators pulled from their own pockets for the respective contributions.

Tens of thousands of people were killed when a destructive magnitude 7.8 tremor struck Türkiye last month.

The House of Representatives also delivered a separate donation of over ₱15 million for the quake victims.
