Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 20) — The printing of official ballots for the May 9 polls has started, according to the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

"Printing of official ballots for the 2022 National and Local Elections started today at about 7 p.m.," Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez tweeted on Thursday.

He said about 60,000 local absentee voting (LAV) ballots will be printed at the National Printing Office.

In a message to reporters, Jimenez said LAV ballots would be manual ballots.

"So there will be no preprinted candidate names," he added.

The poll body earlier said government officials and employees, members of the military and police, as well as media practitioners are qualified for absentee voting in the upcoming elections.

Last week, the Comelec rejected petitions to reopen the filing of certificates of candidacy and to postpone the May polls to 2025.
