Passengers of the Metro Rail Transit line 3 (MRT-3) were offloaded between the Cubao and Santolan stations after smoke reportedly came out from under one of the trains.

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 18) — Passengers of the Metro Rail Transit line 3 (MRT-3) were offloaded between the Cubao and Santolan stations after smoke reportedly came out from under one of the train cars.

In a statement, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said the unloading happened around 6:02 p.m. Passengers disembarked and walked along the rail tracks to the nearby stations.

The train in question was moved to the pocket track in Shaw station.

Several passengers were told the MRT-3 was experiencing "technical difficulties."

Normal operations resumed at 6:35 p.m.

MRT said its technicians found that the cause of the smoke incident was a short circuit in the high voltage wire of the traction motor.
