LOOK: Duterte's signature is now on your banknotes

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — You may soon get peso bills bearing President Duterte's signature.

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) on Tuesday launched banknotes bearing the signature of President Rodrigo Duterte.

The central bank said the bills will be available to the public in the coming days.

BSP Deputy Governor Diwa Guinigundo said the new bills are similar to those released in 2010 that bore the signature of then President Benigno Aquino III. It features the country's natural wonders and endemic species, such as the Tubbataha Reef and the tarsier.

The BSP initially released five million pieces of the new 20, 50, 100, 500, and 1,000-peso bills with Duterte's signature.

As for the 200-peso bills, only two million pieces were released because of lower demand for the denomination.

Demonitized notes

Meanwhile, a reminder from the BSP: old bills — or those released before 2010 — will be demonitized in January 2017; these can no longer be used for financial transactions.

The BSP demonitizes a series of banknotes to protect against fake bills.

For those who still have old banknotes in hand, they may still head to any bank until the last office hours of the year to have their money changed.

Since December 30 and 31 are holidays, Guinigundo said it's best to get bills changed on or before December 29.
