Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, September 17) — SUGA of K-pop supergroup BTS is set to enlist in the military on Sept. 22, his label BIGHIT MUSIC announced on Sunday.

The entertainment agency did not reveal the time or location of SUGA's enlistment in its statement posted on Weverse.

It also confirmed that there will be no official events on the day he starts his required military service or when he enters the training camp.

BIGHIT MUSIC asked fans to refrain from visiting the 30-year-old artist, whose real name is Min Yoon-gi, at his workplace during his period of service.

"We ask for your continued love and support for SUGA until he completes his service and returns," it added. "Our company will also strive to provide all the support he needs during this time."

In South Korea, able-bodied men are required to enlist by age 28 and serve in the army for 18 months. After much clamor, the parliament revised in 2020 the law allowing pop stars like BTS to defer military service until age 30.

SUGA is the third member of the boy group to enter military service, following the oldest member Jin in December 2022 and co-rapper j-hope in April this year.
