Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, May 8) – The national government's total outstanding debt swelled to ₱13.86 trillion by the end of March 2023, the Bureau of the Treasury said Monday.

It rose by ₱104.15 billion or 0.8% from the previous month "primarily due to the net issuance of domestic and external debt," the agency added.

Most of the debt stock, 68.7%, was sourced domestically, while 31.3% came from external borrowings.

Domestic debt creeped up to ₱9.51 trillion, an increase of ₱71 billion or 0.8% compared with the ₱9.44 trillion in February.

Meanwhile, external debt rose to ₱4.34 trillion. This marks an increase of ₱33.15 billion or 0.8% compared with the end-February level of ₱4.31 trillion.

Finally, the government’s guaranteed obligations fell by ₱3.07 billion or 0.8% to a total of ₱384.12 billion. Last February, it stood at ₱387.19 billion.
