Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, March 5) — Globe Telecom and PLDT may be up for another price war once DITO Telecommunity rolls out its mobile services nationwide, as the third telco player targets to offer a competitive promo for its initial launch this month.

A document available on its website showed DITO is set to offer unlimited data, calls, and texts for only ₱199 for 30 days beginning Monday, March 8—its commercial launch.

The promo covering calls and SMS would be limited to DITO-to-DITO network.

The 'welcome offer' will run from Monday to end-March.

DITO Telecommunity said the promo would be offered to Carcar, Cebu City, Consolacion, Danao, Liloan, Mandaue, Minglanilla, Naga, San Fernando, and Talisay in Cebu, and to Panabo, Tagum, Carmen, Davao City, and Digos in the Davao region.

Late in February, the National Telecommunications Commission said the challenger to the Globe-PLDT duopoly passed its first technical performance audit.

The new player—backed by Davao businessman Dennis Uy and state-run China Telecommunications—vowed to provide an average broadband speed of 27 megabits per second, covering 37% of the country's population for its first year of operations.

Its reach would initially be limited to 15 areas in the Visayas and Mindanao. But DITO chief administrative officer Adel Tamano earlier said the group is eyeing to make the coverage "available throughout the country" by the middle of this year.
